Tapio Wirkkala

Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was a visionary of his time, working at the intersection of fine art and design, and across a wide range of scales and materials. He is regarded as one of the most influential figures in Finnish art and design history.

The internationally significant and rare Tapio Wirkkala Rut Bryk Foundation Collection is permanently on display at EMMA in the Bryk & Wirkkala Visible Storage, opened in 2017. The collection is based on the personal archives of the artist couple and forms the most comprehensive body of work by Rut Bryk and Tapio Wirkkala. It includes not only finished artworks but also industrial design objects, models, sketches, drawings, and photographs.
