Birger Carlstedt - Modernismin haaste
Available only in Finnish.
Birger Carlstedt (1907-1975) was a significant Finnish modernist and a pioneer of abstract art. He followed and participated in the art discussions of his time, dared to make experiments that deviated from the mainstream, and became acquainted with different art movements on his many travels. His art reflects several trends of modernism - from expressionistic and surrealistic to cubistic and concrete expression. He also designed textiles and furniture, including the ultra-modern interior for the Le Chat Doré café in Helsinki.
Modernismin haaste is the first extensive and comprehensive work on Carlstedt’s uncompromising and diverse art as well as his unique personality.
